For those interested, here's a topic from 2008 with some DS examples: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... hp?t=25821

I'm not going to put a word in about that, but I personally would not write a DS in your situation, at least not about what you described.theugg wrote:Anyone put in a word about whether or not they would report as URM in my situation?

Re: The Official October Waiter's Oasis
Also thanks, now I'm second-guessing my LoRs. I was going to go for four; my UG program is structured so that I take most of my classes one-on-one with a professor, so I have a lot of unusually strong relationships with professors who know my work unusually well. Is this a bad idea? Halp.

Re: The Official October Waiter's Oasis
I wouldn't revisit the same material in a PS and DS. Unless you can write a DS about something different, I wouldn't do it.SirArthurDayne wrote:My family immigrated here when I was young, so there's a lot to write about in terms of the diversity I offer. But I was just planning on centering my PS on this, so I'm not sure if a DS if necessary. What do you guys think?

Re: The Official October Waiter's Oasis
Most of them will say on their website if they waive for TFA/Americorps and what you should do if they do (which I think is to email them). Some only specify TFA, but you might be able to email and ask about Americorps too.mornincounselor wrote:I didn't know being an Americorps alum could get you fee waivers. I found this thread: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... p?t=137131
Looks like lots of schools do. So do we contact the schools before we start an application with them through LSAC?

Re: The Official October Waiter's Oasis
I really am not familiar with diversity statement criteria, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. I didn't get the sense from what you wrote that your heritage has impacted your ideological perspective in a meaningful and important way. But of course, I could misinterpreting your tone or perhaps you didn't share the full impact it has had on you. It also seems from this thread that diversity statements are broader and more inclusive than I assumed.theugg wrote:Well, what would you think a DS should be about?sanibella wrote:I'm not going to put a word in about that, but I personally would not write a DS in your situation, at least not about what you described.theugg wrote:Anyone put in a word about whether or not they would report as URM in my situation?
ETA: I do think you should look into reporting yourself as URM if you identify that way. I really don't know the criteria for reporting NA, but it's worth a look.
