Re: DECEMBER 2014 WAITERS
Treating them "well" exists along a spectrum; my standard for "well" is not whether or not the cows can literally survive long enough to excrete milk through their udders. If you're making any sort of an informed choice then actually grass-fed/minimally processed is going to be a better decision than standard milk. That doesn't even seem controvertible to me, just more so whether or not you can justify the price/fuss.IsThisForReal wrote:Ha. No. Go visit a dairy. Cows will not produce enough milk to be financially beneficial if you don't treat them well. In robotic parlors where cows are given the choice of when and how often to be milked they end up going like 6 times a day. The main reason farmers do organic or raw anything is because they know people will pay crazy amount for it. It is the biggest pain in the ass to get certified. And most of it doesn't even make sense.Wieters wrote:Technically, maybe, but raw milk is usually indicative. Industrial operations don't produce raw milk, small ones do. Small ones (especially those who are going out of their way to produce raw milk) are more inclined to raise their livestock more holistically.IsThisForReal wrote:Ahem. There are no added hormones in milk sold in the US. rBST was the synthetic form of a hormone that cows already produce and the hormone doesn't show up in the milk anyway. But producers have completely stopped using it because of public concern. Now if you get reconstituted milk from Mexico, through Sam's or Walmart, I can't tell you what's in that. But milk is quite rigorously tested and the only difference between raw and not, is that it hasn't been pasturized (heated to a high temp quickly and cooled back down) and sometimes homogonized (pushed through a screen that breaks up fat globules).Rhymes With Wolf wrote:But hormone infused milk spares me the added expense of having to purchase HGH.

Re: DECEMBER 2014 WAITERS
Well means the cows are happy and comfortable. If a cow is not happy/comfortable/healthy she will not produce much milk. I believe that I am the most informed ITT when it comes to milk and dairies. What is your rationale for the bolded? Cows are treated just as good in a grass-fed operation as they are in a larger operation.Wieters wrote: Treating them "well" exists along a spectrum; my standard for "well" is not whether or not the cows can literally survive long enough to excrete milk through their udders. Which one of the following is a questionable reasoning technique employed in the argument?IsThisForReal wrote:I believe that I am the most informed ITT when it comes to milk and dairies.Wieters wrote: Treating them "well" exists along a spectrum; my standard for "well" is not whether or not the cows can literally survive long enough to excrete milk through their udders. But her argument that
is probably true, especially now that rBST isn't used to stimulate lactation, right?IsThisForReal wrote: If a cow is not happy/comfortable/healthy she will not produce much milk.

IIFYM is the way to go. I felt miserable following a typical bro diet of rice/chicken/broccoli.peppermint wrote:Nlee's getting all the ladies now! Besides me & rfhassan, now you have koala. Get 'em, nleekoala-fy wrote:nlee, did you just talk about macros?? Do you do IIFYM?! I think I love you
