Travel stipends to T14 schools
So I'm wondering which T14 schools give travel stipends to admitted students? Is there a method to request travel stipends if they don't offer it? I didn't get any info on them from my acceptance packages so I'm hoping someone here can provide some answers. Thanks!

If you do a forum search you'll probably find an answer. I know people have compiled this data in past years.Christinabruin wrote:So I'm wondering which T14 schools give travel stipends to admitted students? UVA does, on a sliding scale depending where you are traveling from. Look at this ASW pdf to see how much you would get, the numbers haven't changed.Christinabruin wrote:So I'm wondering which T14 schools give travel stipends to admitted students? Kinda amusing that WV applicants get $250 while VA ones get 0. There are definitely several parts of WV that a significantly closer to Cville than certain parts of Virginia (Franklin county for WV, Blacksburg and VA beach/Hampton roads in general for VA come to mind).
Not complaining at all though, it's actually pretty convenient that they have clear policies on this instead of making applicants ask and then (possibly) arbitrarily giving them out. Even if it does mean they won't be giving me any gas money:P

Hahaha I noticed that too! I would assume VA residents got $50 for gas money at least lolBob loblaw law blog wrote:curry1 wrote:UVA does, on a sliding scale depending where you are traveling from. How much did NYU say they'd give? ETA possible RC fail, but scope of operator is not clearzeglo wrote:I asked NYU, and they said yes. Duke does. Not sure of policy since they have not yet revealed.

Unless they've changed it, NYU does travel stipends based on your need-based aid calculation. The catch is that (especially if you applied for a named scholarship) this can delay your visit until they have an answer from financial aid on the reimbursement.curry1 wrote:How much did NYU say they'd give? I thought I read somewhere (either on TLS or on NYU's website) that if you are invited to interview for a named scholarship, they will automatically provide a travel stipend?cavalier1138 wrote:Unless they've changed it, NYU does travel stipends based on your need-based aid calculation. I'm curious to see the results of this thread. I live in MN so the vast majority of the schools I applied to are far enough away that I'll need to fly.
FWIW, in the voicemail I got from Dean of Admissions Edward Tom at Berkeley, he said funds were available for admitted students to visit. Nothing more specific than that, though, but I plan to reach out to the school once I have an idea of when I'll be able to head out to Cali.

That is the case at NYU. But for any lesser mortals who were not invited to interview for those scholarships, you have to qualify.airwrecka wrote:I thought I read somewhere (either on TLS or on NYU's website) that if you are invited to interview for a named scholarship, they will automatically provide a travel stipend?cavalier1138 wrote:Unless they've changed it, NYU does travel stipends based on your need-based aid calculation. Both H and S give stipends, but you have to "prove need" and even then the stipends aren't great if your traveling any considerable distance.

Not sure how much they offer, but I do know Duke only offers the stipend for their March ASW, so if you can't make it then and come a different time to visit you're out of luck.zeglo wrote:"Not sure of policy since they have not yet revealed."curry1 wrote:How much did NYU say they'd give? Yeah my sentence was unclear. I meant both are unclear.
