C and F anxiety debt collection
Anyone have issues with debt and character and fitness?
Before law school, I let some credit cards go to collections. They were for relatively small amounts. It was stupid and irresponsible, but it happened. I fell behind and then couldn't get caught up and then stuck my head in the sand. Again, stupid and irresponsible. They have all been paid either to the original card company or a collection agency. In law school I had two cards to go collections but internal collections (like Capitol One sent me a collection notice because I had forgotten to pay my bill). These were inadvertent and very small (like one was $70 and one was $120). In fact, they are listed as late on my credit report but they do not reflect that they went to collections. Also stupid and irresponsible, but it happened and I disclosed it (as an addendum because I didn't realize they had gone to internal collections until I called the actual credit card company).
I understand why failure to be financially responsible is a big deal for lawyers what with so many of them stealing from their clients and getting disbarred for it.
Has anyone had any experience like this? I anticipate an interview with character and fitness, but since I've paid it off and accept responsibility, I'm thinking I'll ultimately be fine.

They don't care. They won't interview you about it.

No this isn't a significant character & fitness issue. But whoa I can't imagine how shitty your credit must be.

What state are you applying to?
Generally - you need to just pull your credit report and explain any negative dings. Be short and to the point. Focus on the fact that you're in good standing now and have been for some time and will continue to honor all debts and obligations.
I had a few minor credit dings before LS - I don't recall my interviewer even bringing it up (NY has interviews for all candidates).
