1L Housing Contract
Hello Everyone,
How long do people usually sign their contracts for? 9 months or 12 months? For a school like Cornell I imagine that there isn't much stuff one can do during 1L summer in Ithaca (apart from some academic research maybe), so finding a position in NYC will probably be necessary. So it seems to me that signing a contract for 9 months and then another one for summer in a city is the way to go. Then rinse and repeat for 2L and 3L. Am I missing anything here? Is that what everyone does who goes to law schools in remote areas?

I've never heard of an off-campus 9 month lease at any school. I went to CU undergrad, never saw it there. Your best bet is to sublease during the summer, which can be challenging.

Either eat the cost or sublease. Kinda sucks but that's the way it works pretty much everywhere.

I've been looking at Cornell housing for the last month or so, and I've found that most housing that isn't run by Cornell is willing to lease for a 10 month period (beginning of August until the end of May) for a marginally higher monthly rate. As for on-campus housing, 13 South Ave. contracts and cost are based on the academic year, not 12-month.

So I see that it is hard to find housing just for the academic year (9-10 month period), but that is the preferable way to go in order to be mobile for the potential summer internships, right?
That is what I did in UG at least. I found housing for the academic year (there was plenty, but it was in a big city) and then for the summer I would always go away. Wondering if for a law school that is located in a remote area that becomes even more important to pursue those internships. But now that I think about it again it seems like a no-brainer. Thanks for the input everyone!
