Practicing Law in California
I'm a current 2L at a school in PA and my finance would like to move to Southern California after law school. Any advice on how to land a job in a completely different state and what the chances of me finding a job since I didn't go to law school in the area?

I don't think that there is any particular advice for California jobs, as opposed to any other place that is relatively competitive (i.e., that people want to live and work there).
You may want to consider being a visiting student for 3L, I didn't do this myself but knew some students that did usually for spouse/family reasons.
This will give you a chance to reach out to jobs that you're interested in and maybe get some internship/clerk experience prior to graduation. Unless you have a particularly competitive resume, my sense is that pre-graduation, non-commitment work for an employer is really the best way to get a foot in the door for hiring.
There are probably going to be more jobs in Los Angeles than San Diego, but you may also want to check out surrounding areas (like Orange County, Riverside or Ventura) to see if these less desirable places yield more options.

If interested in finding a job in another state, specifically in the legal field, one must make their application competitive. Many firms look at experience, how a potential applicant presents themselves in an interview, references if needed, and in some cases, the law school attended/attending.
The best advice would be to make your resume/CV strong and present yourself well. If interested in California, you may search different counties such as Los Angeles County, San Diego County, Ventura County, Orange County, San Bernardino County or other counties closer to the northern area.
