Quick question:
When the US world news ranks law schools on the strength of their Tax law programs, does this only include Tax law? Or, does it also include Corporate, Business & Securities as well? I've noticed that many schools distinguish between Corporate law and Tax law in their curriculum. But, since there is no separate ranking in US world news for Corporate/Business Law, is it safe to assume that it is included under Tax law?
Thanks!

I would assume it is only rating the school on their tax program. There's also no reason you should be paying attention to these rankings anyways.

To elaborate: the USNWR specialty rankings are largely meaningless, and employers don't care about them. You're not more likely to get a job in tax law because you went to a top ranked tax law school (except by the coincidence that you are going to an otherwise good school). That said, the top 3 schools in the USNWR rankings (NYU, Georgetown, and Florida) are sometimes cited as the only schools whose Tax LLMs are worth it, but that shouldn't affect your decision of a law school because you can apply for an LLM later.

I suspected it had something to do with LLM programs.hoos89 wrote:To elaborate: the USNWR specialty rankings are largely meaningless, and employers don't care about them. Re: Us World News Rankings - Tax Law
I am a tax lawyer with an LLM.
The only tax programs that mean anything are NYU, GULC, and Florida (but only in Florida). As a 0L prospective tax lawyer, you should focus on attending a top school that gives you a reasonable shot at biglaw. Tax rankings might be a good reason to choose GULC over Cornell or NYU over Chicago, but are not a good reason to choose schools that are not similarly ranked.
