Waitlist Phone Call to Admissions

Post by intrepidenigma » Mon Jul 13, 2015 11:59 am

I've read in numerous places that calling admissions can be beneficial while waitlisted. I would like to, but I'm not really sure what I should say in such a phone call. I think that I've already asked/told them everything relevant. Would it still be worth calling to ask some simple questions such as "Are people still being admitted from the waitlist? Approximately how many more? Any information on the timetable for the remaining decisions?" etc. I'd likely also express that the school is still my first choice and I would accept an offer of admission readily, but other than that, I can't think of much more to say. Any advice?

Yes. Your level of demonstrated (and maintained over time) interest is a big deal to adcomms. Call/email/touch base somehow. Ask questions or send another LOCI or update your resume with volunteer experience or whatever it takes.

Thanks for the response. At least it makes me feel as though calling is the right thing to do in this situation. :) Any advice about the substance of such a call other than what I mentioned in the OP?
