Importance of coursework/ease of classes

Post by boaltlaw » Wed Nov 12, 2014 2:04 pm

A lot of representatives I talked to at the law school fair mentioned that they take a "holistic approach" and that they see difficulty of coursework. If I have taken a lot of bs classes to maintain my gpa (around 4.0 lsac), will that effect me negatively? Similarly, there is an easy POLI prof that gives everyone an A, and I was wondering if they know which classes he teaches (he's the only one that teaches them). Am I overlooking this?

Ease of classes is irrelevant. Get a 4.0 and do well on the LSAT --> profit

Think about it from the admission committee perspective: look at the GPA, maybe glance through the transcript. Is your transcript so loaded with obvious GPA boosters ("basket weaving 101, 102, 201. . . ") that they'll go back for a more thorough examination? A few softballs shouldn't hurt, but like everything in life, if you overdo it, it'll hurt.

Pretty sure law school admissions officers keep lists of professors at every single college and university who give easy As. I mean, why wouldn't they? Also, when have only 5,000 applications to process in a three to four month window, you have plenty of time to pay close attention to the coursework completed, and by studying transcripts in detail, determine exactly the degree to which someone took easy classes to boost their GPA.

You're definitely overlooking something.
