Transferring from Part-Time Program to the Full-Time Program

Post by eddiemen2a » Wed Oct 22, 2014 11:54 am

Is it possible? If so, is it common? Does it usually happen after the first year?

Or does it depend on the school?

Thanks

Is it possible? Yes. Does it happen? It used to happen more, now law schools have gotten wise to it. When? Only after the first year.

Should you consider this as a viable plan going into law school? Not on your life. Not only do PT programs give out substantially smaller scholarships (if any), but if you can't pull this off, you're now stuck paying tuition for four years (albeit prorated) and cost of living (not prorated). So this is actually a worse plan than just attending the full time program for sticker, which is a pretty bad plan as it is.

I'm guessing you're asking this question because you didn't get the LSAT score you wanted. This is not a good workaround. Retake the LSAT and start in a program that's actually a good idea for you.

Thanks. Tuition and cost of living will be paid for, fortunately.

Seems like I would need to worry being able to "pull it off".

And no, I actually did get the LSAT score I wanted. However, I am considering this strategy for a reach school.

Thanks for the insight though. This option is still only a consideration... if it still is a completely stupid option, enlighten me!

Thanks again

There's no real "one size fits all" option here. I can't help but feel like you're being willfully vague because you don't want to hear that you're making a bad decision outside of this scheming to backdoor a FT program. If you have tuition and COA paid for, I would assume that translates to anywhere. Furthermore, I assume that if you're trying to sneak into a FT program at, say, GULC, it's on account of your LSAT score rather than your GPA.

Even if you absolutely refuse to try anything else, you'd probably still be better off EDing to Cornell than trying to sneak into GULC via PT.
