I am trying to decide if I should attend the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign this fall.
Does anyone have any insight into my job prospects coming out of UIUC as a Canadian? Apart from biglaw, I am open to all areas of law.
The cost of education at UIUC is $4000/yr. I have been offered admission to a Canadian school that costs $17 000/yr. I am weary of moving to Illinois because all I hear is how bad the legal market in the US is.. and the fact that I am not American may present some challenges in seeking employment. Otherwise, I love UIUC's tuition.

If you're not an American citizen or green card holder, you're probably biglaw or bust. You should look into US employment laws, but my understanding is that you will have to work for an employer willing to sponsor you and this costs money. Most smaller firms won't want to pay to sponsor your employment. This means you have not much more than a 20% chance of being employed in the US upon graduation at UIUC (http://www.lstscorereports.com/schools/ ... yers/2013/). My understanding is also that the Canadian legal market is much healthier than the US market.schan wrote:I am trying to decide if I should attend the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign this fall.

just so we're clear
you're saying you were offered a nearly full-ride scholarship to UIUC
that reduces tuition to only $4,000
correct?
