Extracurriculars and law school admissions

Post by spencer.414 » Wed Jun 25, 2014 11:52 pm

I have been playing the piano for 17 years and I hear a lot of people talk about how they had some extracurricular that helped them get into law school (a friend was a ballerina and ended up dancing for the school in some capacity). Is there a way to apply for some sort of musical scholarship or to include that experience in my application in the way that my friend did to help my admission chances?

I'm not going to categorically tell you there's no musical law school scholarship, but...keep searching. Remember that nearly all of your classmates are going to be highly accomplished in some way, so the fact that you're highly accomplished is not really a point of differentiation as much as a point of parity. Sure, there are kids who did NOTHING in ugrad but get great grades to get into law school. But I suspect that's the exception at most top schools.

No. LSAT and GPA are all that matter. "Soft" credentials are important to HYS (more so S and Y), but just playing the piano does not qualify.
