Seat deposits ever get refunded?
Stupid question, but I have to find out for sure. Has anyone ever successfully had a deposit refunded after the second deposit? They say they are "non-refundable" but I just wanted to make sure that this is always the case or if there are circumstances where schools will reimburse you . . .

I'm pretty sure this is a flame post...non-refundable means that, non refundable. I know a couple schools I didn't deposit had stipulations where they would give you some of your money back if you told them you were withdrawing by a certain date, but if it says non refundable then I'd just bet on that, and if you aren't sure why not just ask the law school you are trying to get the refund from.

Ha not a flame. I just wanted to test the waters before I talk to a school so I know if it ever happens or not. Also, as an 0L currently deciding on a school, I don't take a lot of what law schools tell me at face value. Therefore, it's not my instinct to assume that something is non-refundable just because they say it is.

If you don't trust your law school to tell you something as basic as whether a seat deposit is refundable, why are you going to law school there?metalgeek wrote:Ha not a flame. Honestly just ask the school if they will refund you. I know that my school refunded some deposits after either the first or second deadlines, even though it's stated on the website and in all the school literature that the deposits are nonrefundable.

Thank you for responding to the actual question! That's what I suspected. This makes me feel better about asking. I honestly had no idea if that was so outrageously dumb to ask for it back. But law schools are so shady these days, you never can tell when they mean something or not.scottidsntknow wrote:Honestly just ask the school if they will refund you. If a person is asking for a deposit back, this can often be a sign they are not going to be attending. Just my two cents thoughmalleus discentium wrote:If you don't trust your law school to tell you something as basic as whether a seat deposit is refundable, why are you going to law school there?metalgeek wrote:Ha not a flame. No problem. Literally the worst thing they can say is no, so it's worth asking.
