Job searching as a Part-time student

Post by collegebum1989 » Wed May 28, 2014 1:12 pm

Hi all,

I am an upcoming part-time student at GWU and was wondering about how it's like for students to be on the job market while going to school part-time. I'm specifically interested in IP (patent prosecution) and know that some firms hire part-time students as patent agents/student associates and provide tuition reimbursement programs. However, I'm also aware that a lot of these patent agents already work for a firm prior to starting PT law school. How does recruitment work for someone entering law school without a firm job?

I have a BS/MS in Biomedical Engineering, 1 year WE in tech consulting, and taking the patent bar in a few weeks so I should have a registration number by the time I start school. Should I try to secure a firm job prior to starting law school? And if not, how difficult is it for PT GWU students to secure patent agent positions after being registered to the practice before USPTO?

Thanks for the help!
