I am applying for the 2014-2015 cycle and am planning to apply for all the T14. Since I am also planning to work in California, specifically Sacramento, I know the schools in or near California are better choices, but is there any law school in T14 that are definitely not a good choice for my situation?

You don't have to avoid any of them.

Within HYS either one will do.

Within CCN, again, either one will do.

For the rest of the t-14, you should target Boalt, but you don't have to avoid any of them in particular.

This question will make a lot less sense to you once you get grant/scholly info. You won't get to make too many "all things being equal" choices, which is the only scenario under which you'd decide to avoid a school because of some unreliable metric about placement into California (which depends more on the economy in Cali as well as your ties).

Well, if you want California and are ambivalent to BigLaw (assuming 'cause Sacramento), I'd say UCLA definitely > Cornell/GTown. If you got into Michigan/Duke/Northwestern, and especially V/P, then your UCLA scholarship is likely big enough to make that a better option. If you don't have CCN numbers you probably won't get a Berkeley scholarship big enough to make that a good idea. If you go HYSCCN, you'll need biglaw for a while but could get where you want geographically, eventually, probably.

If you do want BigLaw, then never mind.

Yeah, the assumptions are pretty critical here.

OP, what kind of law do you want to practice? If you don't care about biglaw, then UCLA for a huge scholarship is probably as good a choice as anywhere, unless you have HYSCCN numbers.

The whole point of the T14 is not just to pick the 14 best law schools. These are the national schools with the truly portable JDs.

That said, Georgetown is not a T14.

Apply to all of them if you have the numbers for it. Apply to Stanford, Cal, USC and UCLA regardless.
