Thoughts on Temple Law School Forum

Hi everyone. I was recently accepted to Temple with a 30,000/year scholarship, bringing the average COA per year to around 17,000.

I'm a South Jersey resident, GPA (3.9) LSAT (162). Also been accepted with similar offers to Rutgers Camden, Seton Hall, and URichmond.

Just wondering if I could get people's opinion on Temple? I'm not set on BigLaw but would like to stay local. Thanks so much for your advice!!!

What are the stipulations on the scholarship?

Seton hall > Rutgers > Temple employment-wise, though it's not a huge difference. No reason to consider Richmond if you want to stay in the area. Only go if the stipulations are good academic standing, and then pick the cheapest COA. And accept that there is a very significant risk of unemployment and non-legal employment at any of these schools.

I'd think very carefully about attending Temple, even if you do want to stay in the area. Although Temple isn't the worst of your options (especially considering the relatively low tuition + scholly), it's still a risky investment. Only 52% of the class of 2012 was employed as a lawyer full-time/long-term nine months after graduation. 35.8% of the class was either employed part-time/short-term, unemployed, working in a non-professional job (such as food service, retail, etc.), or working in a solo firm (very difficult to do and considered an undesirable outcome). On the other hand, with your fantastic GPA, you have great options if you retake the LSAT. The test is very learnable and the forum on here is a great resource. A modest five point bump (very doable) gives you several T14 schools to choose from, some with substantial scholarship money -- and almost certainly a full-ride to the regional school of your choice if you decide to go that route. If you're serious about a career in law, this is your best course of action.

Out of the schools you mentioned, I'd say Temple is your best option. They have a strong network in the Philadelphia area.
