How much does state residency matter?

Post by WhiteHouse » Tue Jul 02, 2013 11:18 am

Hi! First time poster here. I've loved using this site as a resource for the past few months, so thanks everybody.

How much does state residency matter for consideration to t30 schools. I don't mean like being from Michigan and getting into Michigan, but more along the lines of how geographically diverse of a profile a school wants.

The reason I ask this is that I am from the District of Columbia and I was just wondering if that played to my advantage when applying at all?

Thanks! :)

If it matters at all, it's so far down the list of stuff that matters that it might as well not matter.

I've often heard that "law schools want to have students from all over the country," meaning that if you are from an area from which the school hasn't received many applicants, you have a slight advantage.

I have seen absolutely zero evidence that this actually provides any boost to your applications. I have a feeling it's up there with "you'll get a job as long as you just network" and "a law degree opens up many doors outside of being a lawyer."
