Apply this year or wait?
Just a little background: I just graduated from a Pac12 university with a degree in physiology. I spent a good deal of time volunteering in hospitals, with special needs children, and as a camp counselor for youth. I have a 3.51 cGPA and a 159, 158, 161 on the last three LSAT practice tests I have taken (planning on taking the September LSAT). My worry is that since I have focused all of my efforts on padding a medical school application I will not be a good candidate for Law School this year. Should I wait to apply until next and work on some extra curricular's geared towards law school and/or take some history/com/law classes or should I study my brains out for the LSAT and take it in September and go ahead and apply? What advice can you offer a pre-med student who has seen the light and converted over to law?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

Not sure if switching from MD to Esquire is "see[ing] the light", but just study for/kill the LSAT. Nothing else matters compared to LSAT/GPA. They don't care what classes you took (HYS have admitted theatre majors).swisschase wrote:Just a little background: I just graduated from a Pac12 university with a degree in physiology. Re: Apply this year or wait?
Thanks for the reply txdude45. I initially considered Law school upon entering college but after meeting with an advisor, I was persuaded to do all of the pre-requisites for medical school (research, volunteering, shadowing etc) because it was so much more time intensive than the pre-law recommendations at my university. I am not working and can devote 20-40 hours per week studying for the LSAT. I am hoping that will be adequate to get me 164+. Should I consider waiting until December to take it October and get everything in before the end of the year?

If you're committed to going to LS fall 2014, study and take it in Oct. Send in your applications, but still retake in Dec if you think you can do better.swisschase wrote:Thanks for the reply txdude45. Don't think of studying as "i need to devote x hours to studying." If you don't study the right way, you can study 100hr/wk and see no benefit. Take a course, use the bibles, be sure to review every question in the practice tests (even the ones you got right), and don't push too hard. I saw people last fall put in too many hrs/wk and then tank the exam. Don't be that person. You have plenty of time

What you really want with that GPA is a 170+
Or just do med school
Probably the safer route

You need to shoot for a 170+, not a 164+.
Also, I'd go to med school if I were you. Wrong time to become a lawyer.
