Signing a Lease Long Distance

I am a decent drive from the town where I will be attending law school and it would be a hassle to go there to sign a lease. I was wondering if anyone has asked to be faxed the required documents and signed their lease from afar. I would also not see that property at all this way outside of pictures that I have seen. I google mapped the distance to the law school and am comfortable with that so I'm not sure how much me visiting really matters. Thanks in advance.
