Can you withdraw an ED application before they've answered?

Yes, but don't expect to get in RD, they probably won't be persuaded of your desire to attend if you withdraw the ED contract.

in case anyone ever references this in the future. the answer is yes, it can be done and i did it with no problems. but i withdrew the entire app - i didn't try to go from ED to RD.
