Fordham allows transferring at the end of 1L (subject to permission) but they are actively working to discourage this. Two years ago they sliced the evening program in HALF to start squelching this "back door" thing: the PT program is now 80 students per year. The Dean of Admissions is open about his desire to make the program what it once was: a way for working professionals to get their law degree, at night.
As for respectability, everyone I know who has done the P/T program at Fordham while working FT has heard only positive things during OCI/etc: interviewers understand how rough it is to work 40+ hours and THEN go to school.
I also agree with what others have said - if you do a PT program and are NOT working, you will be asked about it. As well you should be.
