Spring Start Programs -- Thoughts?

Post by bdm261 » Tue Jul 03, 2012 8:16 am

Sorry if this has been posted before, but I want recent opinions anyhow.

I am graduating UG in Dec 2012 which unfortunately would mean I will wait around 9-10 months post-graduation to start law school in Aug/Sep 2013. I have no idea what I would do in between, and prospects of finding a well-paying job with my B.A. in Communications that will keep me for only 9 months seem dim.

Are Spring start programs worth considering? Why or why not? I would like the chance to get one semester into law school by Fall 2013, plus I'm taking a light load of easy classes during my final fall UG semester and I could be fresh and ready to start in January.

Find a job doing just about anything that pays the bills for 9 months, so long as it isn't something that would look bad on a resume, and use that time to make sure your application packet is as strong as it can possibly be. You've got a lifetime to be a lawyer if that's what you really want, what's the rush? Besides, a little WE is good for you.

This but will add a few thoughts.

I am not sure which law schools have the spring start but I know Cardozo has one and think Baylor does so will use those for my logic.

There is nothing wrong with a spring start per se and if any of HYS have one and you are excepted, then yes, go. I don't think any of those schools have one so you may be settling by starting in spring. If Cardozo or Baylor is your dream school and you have a full ride in spring then OK but would you go to Cardozo when you could have had a full ride at CLS in the fall? Would you go to Baylor in the spring if you could get $$$ at Texas? You see where I am going here. The fact that a school HAS a spring start should NOT weigh into your choice of schools at all.
