Posting school information in profile.

Is it a bad idea to post GPA and undergrad school information in your profile considering you have yet to apply to schools?

Why would it be a bad idea?

ETA: You can be vague about your school, if you want (see my profile), but your numbers can help others with their application cycles.

I see people sometimes write "numbers fudged" or similar. It seems they are trying to mask their identity. They do this especially on law-school-numbers and they'll write things like "numbers inaccurate until hear back from schools." This suggests that there may be something to be concerned about.

Well, some people on here are raging assholes and/or incredibly un-PC (it is the internet, after all), especially in the Lounge threads. If a profile is pretty unique, someone in the admissions office at a law school could identify them by UG school, major, GPA, etc., and see them being a dickhead or whatever.

So don't post anything you'd be embarrassed to have an adcomm see and you're fine. Just like Facebook.

Or fudge your GPA by .02 and be vague about your school. No tinfoil hat needed.

This.

I've noticed that some of the biggest a-holes on this site don't have any info about themselves on their profile, or they try to make some lame attempt to be clever. They wouldn't want admissions offers, professors, etc. that could identify them to know their online personalities. If you are at least semi-professional online and aren't posting things like "I'd never attend school XYZ. I only applied because I was bored", you should be in good shape. I think its very useful for those applying to schools to see the LSAT and GPA of the students that want to go to/are waitlisted/accepted to/ rejected from various schools

Don't post objectively retarded things on the internet and no one will care.

Exactly this!

I use my real name and stand behind what I say. So I don't care if adcomms, the wife, my friends, or whoever read what I say.
