Can you defer for a year after being accepted off waitlist?
I am wondering if you can choose to defer for one year if you were accepted off the waitlist. My guess is no. The specific institution in question here is the University of Wisconsin Law School.
Anyone have any idea?

I want to ask but I am worried that they will rescind the offer of admission. Is this a valid concern?

They won't revoke it over a question. If you definitely want to go, make it clear you'll go either way.Jhausie wrote:I want to ask but I am worried that they will rescind the offer of admission. Is this a valid concern?

I know schools like American, they specifically say you can't. Other schools take it on a case by case basis.Jhausie wrote:I am wondering if you can choose to defer for one year if you were accepted off the waitlist. My guess is no. My thoughts are they don't want you to be there if you don't want to be there, so deferring you after you have an acceptance in hand might be the best bet on their part.

My thoughts are that if they accept you off the waitlist, they don't really care either way - you're just filling a spot.MormonChristian wrote:I know schools like American, they specifically say you can't. I agree that it never hurts to ask, just be careful in how you phrase it.
If you say you'll go either way, they might say no
If you say you will defer, they might take that as a withdrawal
So, be ambiguous.
