I have a swiss army bag, and it's held up well.

Re: Help me pick a backpack
I got the North Face Surge (men's). It just barely fits my current 17" and should be very comfortable with the ~15" I'll be getting for school. I've had North Face packs for years and only one ever broke (one plastic buckle).
Don't get a Jansport. There's a good possibility it won't last the year if you're loading it up with books and computers.

I've had the same Jansport bag since I was in high school and still use it in law school. Definitely a bit worn, but its lasted me about 9 years at this point, so I have to recommend it. No clue what the above poster is talking about. I load this thing up with a computer and multiple books every day. Shoulder straps are still as strong as the day I got the bag.

The zippers on my Jansports always crapped out.kaiser wrote:I've had the same Jansport bag since I was in high school and still use it in law school. Well then I guess I must have gotten mine back when things were made to last (sort of feel like my grandpa saying that)rinkrat19 wrote:The zippers on my Jansports always crapped out.kaiser wrote:I've had the same Jansport bag since I was in high school and still use it in law school. Mid-90s? I used them in middle/high school, and I'm old.kaiser wrote:Well then I guess I must have gotten mine back when things were made to last (sort of feel like my grandpa saying that)rinkrat19 wrote:The zippers on my Jansports always crapped out.kaiser wrote:I've had the same Jansport bag since I was in high school and still use it in law school. I second the anti-Jansport sentiment. The insides always never really last for me for some odd reason.

I got this one for use with my 17 inch laptop and I like it. Fits my laptop, enormous charger, and several casebooks comfortably. http://www.amazon.com/Targus-Backpack-D ... B0001EMM10

Re: Help me pick a backpack
I second your North Face praise. Carried the same one (Vault--the basic one) through five years of undergrad with no issues at all--not even a worn strap or broken buckle. I'll be using TNF for as long as I can get away with carrying a backpack.rinkrat19 wrote:I got the North Face Surge (men's). Hijack question: How often do you guys see law students using messenger backs (like chromebags or timbuk2)?

How about:

On a more serious note: Kelty Reverb. I've had mine for four years and it's awesome!

Block in middle school, fancy cursive in high school. Because I was one classy 16 year old.laxbrah420 wrote:Nice! Both monogrammed? Block or cursive, yo?

LL Bean isn't big out here, I guess. I did have several Eddie Bauer backpacks, however.franklyscarlet wrote:They were the shit in suburban Ohio.rinkrat19 wrote:I don't think they were ever in. At least not where I lived.laxbrah420 wrote:

I don't even know what that is. Down here Jansport was the norm.rinkrat19 wrote:I don't think they were ever in. At least not where I lived.laxbrah420 wrote:
