Taking LSAT Early

Post by BruceDenton » Mon Apr 02, 2012 8:44 am

Quick Question:

If I take the LSAT this June, but don't apply until admission for Fall of 2015 (so wait two years, essentially), will schools hold that against me in any way? Potentially gunning for HYS, but am likely going to work for a couple years. I've been prepping for the LSAT and am PT'ing where I want, and it makes the most sense to take it this June.

EDIT: I know the score is technically good for 5 years, but I'm not trying to sell myself short in any way.

I took the LSAT 2 years before I applied, and I've had a good cycle. If it makes sense for you to take it now and wait a couple years, take it now and wait a couple years.

Unless you think waiting will increase you're score, you should take now and get it out of the way. Think of the relief a 170+ would give you as you finished your undergrad/worked for a few years.

There's nothing to suggest that schools would hold this against you other than anectodal evidence and common sense, but this should be enough to show that you're fine if you take it a few years in advance.

Take it early. It gives you the option to retake later on just in case you don't do as well as you expected. That's what's happening with me right now. I took it back in feb. 2011, didn't do as well as I know I can do, and now I'm retaking.

Taking it early is a great idea as long as you are prepared.
