Obnoxious Law School adverts
Anyone have any stories about ridiculous advertisements they've gotten from various schools?
Mine has to be this huge thing from Florida International University. It's huge, completely in color, and about 40 pages in length. It includes a course list, bios on all the professors, stunning visuals of their school and messages from the president. I know where my tuition money would go!
If I had a digital camera I'd post a picture of this monster.

I just got that a few days ago, too! I couldn't stop laughing as I threw it away...Scotusnerd wrote:Anyone have any stories about ridiculous advertisements they've gotten from various schools?

Re: Obnoxious Law School adverts
how about emails first asking if I am "still planning on taking the LSAT" followed by saying I should apply, then after the LSAT, two more emails spaced a couple weeks apart talking down to me as if I were supposed to call the tier 4 school after getting the first email...that was nice.
especially when after the first, I told them to remove me from their mailing list.

Fucking McGeorge sent me a fee waiver last week and already followed up as to whether I will be applying. I'm currently a 1L.

Florida Coastal sent some really scary stuff when the October LSAT scores were supposed to be coming out. It freaked a ton of people out thinking scores had been released. We then went into this really long discussion about whether schools knew before release exactly when the scores were coming and that the FC email meant the scores were coming later that day.... it ended up being several days later IIRC.

I got a similar advertisement by mail from Golden Gate University. I was seriously unimpressed... they could have easily send it to me via email, it would have been a "greener" thing to do. I'm not saying everything should be send via email, but in my point of view publicity to random students (in the sense that I had not expressed an interest for their law school, they must have picked me up on LSAC because of my numbers) should be.Scotusnerd wrote:Anyone have any stories about ridiculous advertisements they've gotten from various schools?

I sent a response to Kansas saying in less than formal terms that I would never attend their law school. The dean of admissions replied, also in less than formal terms, that he was insulted and would be reporting me to LSAC for an unnamed violation if I ever sent them something again.
I have since received 7 emails, and a mailing asking me to apply…

Okay, you ever go on a porn page and they have the (obviously fake) "chat box" or whatever where the fake girl says like "hey, what's up sexy? ... I see you're in [city name]. me too! ... it's soooo boring here, wanna come see me?
... I'm so wet right now ... " etc.?
I kept getting this type of correspondence continually from the Phoenix Law School (one of the for-profits run by Infilaw) via email. The adcomm (who I really think is a bot) would keep sending me these pseudo-personalized emails saying shit like, no joke:
Email 1: "Hey [name], the Phoenix School of Law can offer you a guaranteed 30% scholarship based on your credentials. Let me know if you need a deadline extension; keep in touch." [bear in mind, I obviously never applied to this shithole]
Email 2: "I talked to our Associate Dean, and we're now prepared to offer you a scholarship equivalent to half your first year's tuition. Call me when you get the chance."
Email 3: "Hey I never heard back from you after our last chat [most of this is vague recollections from memory, but I specifically remember the line "our last chat," which obviously is weird as fuck]. We can only hold your scholarship open for another two weeks, but if you need a deadline extension just let me know."
Email 4: "Hey Congratulations again on your scholarship to the Phoenix Law School. Don't forget to call Becky [or whoever] for information on how to enroll."

I actually am glad this thread came up; I had forgotten about it entirely (I'm a 2L now), but I'm curious if anyone else got the weird Phoenix Law School "we're friend with you" emails.
I'd copy/paste them, but they were sent to my old UG account.

I've been getting e-mails from Phoenix ever since I sent my transcripts to LSAC. What's weird is that one of the admissions staff sent me a personal e-mail asking me to apply immediately, because it would be in my best interests to do so. I haven't even taken the LSAT yet.

Hi,
I just noticed that your CAS file is complete at LSAC and think you would be a good fit for our program. Based on your LSAT and undergrad GPA, you qualify for a Full-time Merit Scholarship of $27,000 per academic year. Applications are coming in for Spring and Fall 2012 and I would like to see you get a Full-time day scholarship. Hope to see your application soon (use the fee waiver code E4147PEXW1 on your application).
When making your decision about where to apply, please keep in mind that 93% of our graduates are working in JD required or preferred jobs.
If you are interested, please let me know if this is a good email address to send you more information.
Candy
P.S. We have Full ABA Accreditation -- learn more: --LinkRemoved--
I IGNORED THIS EMAIL AND THEN GOT ANOTHER FROM THEM A FEW DAYS LATER.

Hi,
I sent you an email last Thursday with a scholarship offer of $27,000 per academic year for Spring or Fall 2012. It was based on your LSAT and undergrad GPA, but I haven't heard back from you.
Please reply to this email if you are interested. The application fee is waived.
Thank you,
Candy
P.S. We are not associated with the University of Phoenix.

Re: Obnoxious Law School adverts
My favorite two so far were Alabama Law:
With the law school application process underway, Alabama Law is a “must apply” for many of the most competitive students. Shouldn’t it be for you, as well?
Apply today and we’ll:
1. waive your application fee, and
2. present you with 20 free music downloads on iTunes®
And this one from Regent that sounds like a desperate/clingy high schooler who can't the hint that her friends don't want to talk to her anymore.
Subject: Do we still have the right address for Jetissent?
Jetissent,
Do you still use this email address? I want to make sure you have received our personal invitation to apply to Regent Law.

Re: Obnoxious Law School adverts
I find the emails from Iowa to be incredibly obnoxious, mostly because they tell you in the email that they refuse to remove you from their listserv because you "signed up for CRS." And? Every other school has an unsubscribe link. I even emailed them and they repeated the same thing. Get a clue, Iowa. I'm not interested in attending.

I got a postcard from Penn State in the fall that was only the football schedule and an aerial shot of a night game.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
