How annoying is...Diversity Statement
This may seem a weird question, but how annoying will adcoms find reading a diversity statement that they do not require from a NON URM? I just have a unique story that I could NOT incorporate into my personal statement. It's just something I want them to know in addition to all the other info they have on me, but it is not repetitive information. Do you think they would be annoyed though, and even hurt my chances of admission because it renders too MUCH information about me? Is there such thing as too much information?

If it is written well and is truly unique I think it would help a little.
Maybe you can post the DS here and get advice.

I dot think its annoying. I am a URM, but one cannot tell from reading my DS. I do not include my race. My diversity was about growing up with different cultures and being almost like an ambassador figure. Any race could've written about that

Thanks for your replies! i think since I do have a "story", I will send in a short and sweet one. Nothing too long...if it's too long then it WILL start to annoy someone!!
Thanks!

Wouldn't hurt, worst they can do is not read it. Best thing to do is to call the admissions office and see if they are willing to accept one. If they show blatant distaste then don't send one.

Yes, I'd call the admissions office. some schools might not accept additional statements. instead, for diversity purposes, the school might expect that your diversity be written into your main personal statement.

pillowpet and Norwood, thanks! That is a good idea...the whole point of this is to not annoy the people who may ultimately accept u to their school so....i should probably check with them...

I imagine your inability to hit the keys "y-o-u" or "shift" will be more annoying to them than anything else.

Ha...Yeah sorry about that. I suppose TLS is the place to really show off those formal writing skills and grammatical knowledge! Oops!romothesavior wrote:I imagine your inability to hit the keys "y-o-u" or "shift" will be more annoying to them than anything else.
(really not used to using shift key and full length words on a non-school/work/essay website.)
