Student Rankings in schools that don't give out grades
I've been wondering this for quite awhile. How do schools who do not assign a numerical GPA to their students have rankings? I know some of the top schools just have F/P/H. Would that mean that the vast majority of the school's students can't be compared to each other during OCI and such (people with a lot of Fs would be obvious to spot I'm assuming, so not counting them)?
Completely ignorant on the issue, clarifications are most welcome.
Thank you.

Yeah, basically, you're right.
An H/P/F system mostly obfuscates student rankings in the middle of the class. This is only a problem if employers care whether they're hiring someone around bottom 40% or top 40%. From HYS, most employers don't care. But an H/P/F system still allows the very best and very worst students to stand out. Employers can identify the best (and avoid the worst).
The schools could rank the students if they wanted—just assign numbers to the H/P/F symbols and calculate an average just like you do with calculating a GPA using A/B/C symbols. I think Harvard does do this. But most of the top schools don't publicly rank students regardless of whether they use letter grades or some H/P/F system. However, they probably do use the rankings for scholarships, graduation honors, etc.

Can both of you give us sources? I.e. why do you know this?
(I'm presuming you're both law students at those schools?)

How do these schools determine who to invite to join Law Review?
