Soft IP?
How hard is it to get into "soft IP" areas such as copyright, trademark, licensing, Internet, piracy and privacy?

It depends greatly on your school, luck, what firms come to OCI that year, and their needs for this very specific area. So, I'd say it ranges from easy to impossible.

The problem is there's not a lot of it. You need to have the grades/school credentials to target the firm offices that do this work regularly. From there, you need luck—is there a soft ip group to join? if so, are they hiring? if not, can you buddy up to the right people to get the work when it comes in? You can try to set yourself up to do this work by targeting the right firm, and befriending the right people, but even then it may not work out.

It seems a lot of IP stuff is moving to boutique IP firms, or to specific IP departments in bigger firms, and they only want people who can do both.
