URM
Just wanted to know everyones opinion on the fairness of giving a boost to someone soley for race. Seems racist to me to assume that someone needs help just because they are not white.

Re: URM
The "fairness" of affirmative action policies must be judged based upon the situation to which they are applied. If they are applied to a situation where URM's are discriminated against based upon race, then they are fair. If they are applied to a situation where everyone is judged by the same standards, then they are unfair.
There is no question that 35 years ago, many people were intentionally discriminated against based upon their race. In this context, the URM policies are fair. However, the social context in which these rules were applied has since changed. In my opinion, it's time to review the policies and adjust them to reflect the changing social climate of the United States so that everyone is treated equally.
