OCI/Employment Timeline Question

Post by Hawkeye Pierce » Sat Jul 23, 2011 4:08 pm

I did a quick search and stumbled across this thread (which was very helpful): http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 2&t=153862

I have a couple questions, however.

He says that during your 2L Summer, you have the following: "2L summer employment, preferably at a large firm that will hire you after graduation or at a public interest organization (you know, if "that's your thing")."

My question is: do the majority of people who get 2L summer employment at firms (let's say V100) get hired after graduation?

If so, do you find out at the end of the 2L summer employment stint?

If not, then what is the process/timeline for interviewing and getting a job after graduation?

Most people get offers out of a 2L big law SA. You can look at offer rates here: http://nalpdirectory.com/. During the crisis, there were some deferrals and no-offers. As to what happens if you get no-offered, shh--we don't speak of that here.

Most people (at least over 80%, and probably over 90%) who summer at V100 firms will receive an offer to join the firm as an associate. The offers may come as early as the final week of the summer program, or as late as the fall, depending on the firm.

Historically you'd get an offer unless you didn't bathe or went streaking at the firm picnic. Since 2009 that is no longer the case, and many people have gotten no-offered simply because the firm couldn't afford to hire them. The worst of that has probably passed.
