Firms prefer private law schools?
Encountered an idea on TLS and wanted to see if it was isolated or wide spread. Do you think firms prefer private law schools to public ones? I'm interested in why or why not, and if you yourself go to a private or public school.

Look at the T14 it's indicative of the recruiting power of those schools and they are certainly not all private.

It depends on where you go. UVA, for example, places very well for a public school.Lord Randolph McDuff wrote:Encountered an idea on TLS and wanted to see if it was isolated or wide spread. I would think if you are serious about being a lawyer, you would pay the money for a good school and not go to some community law school or state school.

Right? What kind of unambitious, self-loather goes to Michigan or Berkeley. geezlawgod wrote:I would think if you are serious about being a lawyer, you would pay the money for a good school and not go to some community law school or state school.

For undergrad? No. The top state undergrads (Virginia, Berkeley, Michigan) are as good or better than anything outside the Ivy/near-Ivy level. For law school? Definitely not.NYC Law wrote:For the top 50 or so Private > Public

Law firms are part of the private sector. They will always prefer people who appreciate and support the private sector over people who just mooch off the public.

I think you will find that there are more lawyers practicing in Michigan from Cooley than from UMichigan.chimp wrote:Cooley > University of Michigan?lawgod wrote:Law firms are part of the private sector. This all has to be a joke right? I mean you go down the list of top public schools and they do just as well as their private peers

Well, they do have decent employment numbers, but that's because most of them take jobs in PI and government.justhockey31 wrote:This all has to be a joke right? I mean you go down the list of top public schools and they do just as well as their private peers

Whatever. Bottom line is your average Cooley student has a better chance of ending up practicing in Michigan than a UMich student. So it follows that if you want to practice in Michigan, you should go to Cooley.kwais wrote:a) because the Michigan grads are in DC, NY, SF and Chi and Cooley is a degree milllawgod wrote:I think you will find that there are more lawyers practicing in Michigan from Cooley than from UMichigan.chimp wrote:Cooley > University of Michigan?lawgod wrote:Law firms are part of the private sector. Hey! Behave yourself. This is not trolling.Bildungsroman wrote:Everyone just ignore lawgod, he;s shown himself to be a troll on numerous occasions.
If I had started this thread I would be a troll. All I'm doing is playing off someone else absurd posts.
You will find that all my "trolls" are that.
