I have the opportunity to work during my first year and I'm considering it. I would work 5 hours a week from home, schedule my own hours and my boss has no problem with me taking a week off as necessary. I currently work at this company so I wouldn't have the stress that comes with starting a new job. I would make enough to cover gas, groceries and utilities. The company is one of the largest companies in the field I want to work in after law school and I truly enjoy the work.
Should I take it? I'm concerned about taking time away from school work but it seems like a pretty good deal.

Assuming your school says okay, I don't see a problem with it. Five hours is tiny and as long as you can take off a bit around finals I think having a bit of spending money sounds great
People make time for the gym, for bar time, for dating, for hobbies, some people even manage to be a parent! There's no reason you can't find five hours to make a bit of money and maintain a relationship with an employer (even better if they have legal jobs!).

5 hours a week is nothing. I think you will be fine.

FWIW. Someone told me that schools frown upon students working during 1L and so you might want to find out if your school is even okay with it first.Georgiana wrote:Assuming your school says okay, I don't see a problem with it.
