Living with 2Ls

Post by cool of law » Tue May 10, 2011 1:48 pm

0L here and I am looking for housing this Fall. Would there be any downside to living in a house with 2Ls? I know they would probably be laughing at how stressed out I am, but besides that is there any reason to avoid this living situation?

if you're straight out of undergrad, maybe not the best idea.
If you've had a professional 9-5, probably no big deal.

paulina: That's what I was thinking, I'll be able to get their outlines plus all their friends' outlines, though I am one of those people who actually learning from the note taking itself, so I'll still probably make my own but will use theirs as solid supplements. It will also be nice to hear about teachers' tendencies etc.

jd: I graduated 3 years ago, so I should be alright.

They won't be laughing at you; they were there a year ago. Plus, you'll get to pick their brains whenever you need. I would definitely do it.

I lived with a 2L this past year. He had most of my professors and had awesome outlines. Not to mention during exams he wasn't freaking out like every 1L so it was refreshing to have someone sane during that time.

Great decision to live with 2Ls - I lived with 3 of them this past year.

Couple pieces of advice

1) Don't neglect to socialize with your fellow 1Ls. I made that mistake during the first semester, but it was not too late to catch up second semester. Plus you get mad cred among your 1L friends if you have 2L friends, provided they don't suck.

2) Be CAREFUL about using 2L outlines. They are useful for comparing with your own outline, but it should NOT be a substitute. The outlining process is most important, so do not be lazy. The only class I did not outline for (property, probably the most conceptually easy class) was the class that I got my worst grade (by far).
