If you have a legit reason, not that hard at all. A girl I met at the asw got permission to do so from the dean on the spot when she told him she wanted to do a 2 year MFA first.

My guess is it depends on how you phrase it. Just call/email and ask. It's not like they'll revoke your admission/scholarship just for asking about deferment.
