Min IQ required to succeed in Law School?

Post by Nolaw » Wed Jan 19, 2011 11:37 am

Also, what's the average IQ of lawyers? My IQ is 113 according the Wescheler IQ test administered, which was adminstered by a psychologist a year ago. I understand that I am by no means an intellectual giant, but I have a lot of drive and am tenacious. What would you say my chances of being a successful lawyer are?

If you go to a top 20 law school, most students have at least an IQ of 130. With an IQ of 113 you are screwed. Enjoy being at the bottom of your class.

The day to day activities of a lawyer don't require a lot of intelligence. You could train a monkey to do half your billable hours. What it really takes is perseverance. My uncle is a lawyer and he's not very smart. He graduated from a local TTT and worked his way up from the bottom of a small firm. His story is a lot like Obama's story if you think about it. How do the naysayers explain people like my uncle and Obama? When the evidence doesn't fit into their theories (which are self serving and overvalue the things they excel at) they simply write off these people as rare exceptions to the norm. If you want to be a lawyer badly enough you'll be able to do it. Just study harder than everyone else, do your best, and hustle.

I tried, but would prob need more info to compare your uncle to Obama; aside from the fact that he worked at a law firm

And Obama went to Harvard, not a TTT.

He took it from The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. Great book.
