What are you talking about, GW is just as good as Georgetown... kinda like BC is just as good as good as Harvard. No reason to be defensive at all! Just about every student who goes to GW had Georgetown as an option. If you don't believe them, just ask.

Probably not as overshadowed as they feel by all the T14 law review kids gunning for the city that they go to school in.

I don't think GW feels overshadowed by Gtown. There's a lot of GW alums in DC and GW is well respected.

So how must American students feel if what you all say, even if slightly tongue in cheek, is true???

THIS is kinda like asking whether UC Santa Cruz students feel overshadowed by Stanford.Anacreon wrote:So how must American students feel if what you all say, even if slightly tongue in cheek, is true???

I know in Boston the BC/BU kids never hang out at the same places as the MIT/Harvard students. Any idea if this is true in D.C., and if so what the divide is? Six spots difference isn't a huge divide (except for it being t14-20).Veyron wrote:THIS is kinda like asking whether UC Santa Cruz students feel overshadowed by Stanford.Anacreon wrote:So how must American students feel if what you all say, even if slightly tongue in cheek, is true???

The type of person who posts threads like these on TLS is likely to feel very overshadowed, indeed.
The cool, funny, attractive ones will, of course, not care.
Edit: not meant to be a shout-out at the OP, or making fun of TLS posters. But read it at face value and it's dead true.

Yeah man I don't feel it at all but that's what the TLS review of GW Law said. I don't want to be surrounded by insecures.flcath wrote:The type of person who posts threads like these on TLS is likely to feel very overshadowed, indeed.

Well, the administration does. Otherwise they wouldn't endlessly carp about it at ASW.$1.99 wrote:Do NYU kids feel overshadowed by Columbia kids?

Whenever there's an obvious "second choice" school like GULC/GW, UT/SMU, NU/Chi, etc., the specificity of the insecurity makes it cut a little deeper, I guess.Anacreon wrote:Yeah man I don't feel it at all but that's what the TLS review of GW Law said. I shit you not: when I was a 0L, I met 2 girls who were going to HLS and they had the same sort of thing going about YLS (not geographically close, but still a glaring "I'm going to [x] because I didn't get into [y]" situation). They talked about how much better HLS was than YLS, how HLS had better alumni connections, more SCOTUS ppl, et cetera. These might have been valid arguments, except I know for an absolute fact that one of the girls had wanted Yale so badly that she'd cried upon not getting in.
I don't give you this lovely anecdote to make a point about HLS/YLS, or some over-broad point about how there's always somewhere better. In fact, it strengthens your assumption; I'd bet that this kind of thing is more prevalent between GW and GULC than any two other schools in the country. But still, even having said that, it will not affect the cool, funny, attractive people.

For or against? I actually bet it doesn't happen as much b/t these 2 due to the WE requirement at NU.rad law wrote:Blatant NU trollingflcath wrote: Whenever there's an obvious "second choice" school like GULC/GW, UT/SMU, NU/Chi, etc., the specificity of the insecurity makes it cut a little deeper, I guess.
Mainly I used those 2 because I wanted include at least one pair of T13s in the list, and I didn't want to start up the Col/NYU debate.
