1Ls: Rate your law school experience so far

Post by FunkyJD » Sat Sep 18, 2010 9:44 am

0.5L here. Admitted, but deferred for a year.

Question for 1Ls: So far, a few weeks in, how has your law school experience conformed to your expectations going in; and how has it greatly differed?

If you don't have strong reasons or a lifelong burning desire for going to LS spend deferred year exploring other options. I have an entirely different view of LS now than I did a few months ago.

I really enjoy it, but I always have the feeling that everyone is doing more than I am. Maybe that is because I'm not doing anything other than what is assigned, and maybe that's why I'm enjoying it. Oh well.
Except Civil Procedure. yuck.

Its alright. I came here to get good grades and a bomb job and I have not actualized either goal. All the other stuff is cool (smart people, smart profs, drinking, softball, etc.) but superfluous at the end of the day really. You do not really know how you are doing since you only get graded @ the end of the semester. It kind of leaves a cloud of anxiety over your head all semester thinking "did i do enough today?" "what is everyone else doing?". Maybe its just me but I feel slightly guilty whenever I'm not studying because I know someone else is. all the 2 and 3Ls i know seem happy and content with life and have a wide range of grades (LR to definitely below median). Its not all weeping and gnashing of teeth but it's not all rainbows and butterflies (unless you dont care about grades at which point LS is probably a vacation for you).

Thanks for the replies. @Gatortim, I'm 100 percent committed to law school. I simply desired a year to clear my mind post-masters and save up some cash. "Not retreating -- reloading."

Thanks vanwinkle, I'll check out the existing thread. Stepped away from this site after admission to reclaim my life  but curiosity's got me coming back to see what people are up to and how their experiences are going so far. So I'll peruse the existing info.

I have heard legends of this marvelous creature, though seen it with my own eyes I have not.
