Should I have my LOR writers update?

Post by wrteach » Wed Aug 25, 2010 10:00 pm

I am applying in the 2010-2011 cycle, and I am wondering if I should have my old recommenders (My Thesis Advisor and an attorney I worked for in college) rewrite new letters of recommendation even though their old ones are still on file. On the one hand, it seems as though it would be best to have recent letters from all recommenders, but on the other, the older letters were written closer to the time I was actually interacting with and working for those particular recommenders (I have 2 new ones from my current job and program.). Thoughts?

If you haven't had additional work for the old recommenders the old letters will be fine, especially since you have additional writers.
