Better private school vs. very good public school
I'm only going to be a junior this upcoming year, so I have yet to take the LSAT and obviously there are quite a few deciding factors still up in the air. However, I'm starting to look at some schools, and one question that I have is about the merits of going to a better private school (which will obviously be far more expensive) vs. a very good public school instate. Long term, is going to a slightly better school (and associated job opportunities etc.) worth the extra debt? (Generally speaking of course, I know that there are lots of factors such as scholarship money and personal preferences which can influence ones decision.) Specifically, I'm looking at places like Emory or Vanderbilt vs. UNC, which would be instate for me.

It depends.
Region where you'd like to work?
Type of work you'd like to do?
Difference in debt load?
Absolute and Relative rankings (T14 might be worth your while, 22 instead of 24 might not be)?
There's prolly other stuff to consider too.

Public versus private doesn't mean a whole lot as far as prestige. There are excellent public and private schools. That really shouldn't even be a factor.
And it's way, way, way too soon to be worrying about that sort of thing.

I guess my best advice would be to start looking through this website and message board.

That's terrible advice, why use the search function on these forums when you can just start a new thread?prezidentv8 wrote:I guess my best advice would be to start looking through this website and message board.

Forget your general question, it is meaningless. The answer changes completely depending on which two schools you are talking about and for what market.
For your specific question, it depends on if you want to work in NC. Keeping in mind that the difference in ranking is enough that you will likely get substantial (or at least some) scholarship to UNC if you get in to Emory and Vanderbilt as well, it might be a good idea to go to UNC if you really want to work in the state. If you want to work anywhere else though, I would say go to Vandy over UNC in almost every situation. Emory, I am not as emphatic about, but I would still lean towards it over UNC.

High level redundancy is an evolutionary advantage, eg. if i lose an eye at least I have another.prezidentv8 wrote:MOAR THREADS! Conversely I decided it would be a good idea to to build a time machine so I could go back in time and alter my genes so that I would have two penises.Bosque wrote:That is why I had the eyes of 4 drifters grafted onto my forehead.Leeroy Jenkins wrote:High level redundancy is an evolutionary advantage, eg. if i lose an eye at least I have another.

The idea is that I would also be able to do what normally takes two men.paratactical wrote:That's a whole new kind of shocker.Leeroy Jenkins wrote:Conversely I decided it would be a good idea to to build a time machine so I could go back in time and alter my genes so that I would have two penises.
