Class called Elements of Law

Post by jbarl1 » Wed May 26, 2010 6:59 pm

A new class called Elements of Law has been added to my school's required 1st year classes. Does anyone know what I can expect from a class like that or if there are any supplements I should check out to prepare?

0L so take this with a grain of salt: I hear selenium is a bitch on hypos...

On a topic, though, I just googled the textbook used in one of those classes and the closest to a description I got was "Introducing them to the concepts of the common law, statutory law with canons of construction, stare decisis, and more."

HTH

Probably varies by school, obviously. Just an guess.

I just wanted to see if other schools had it, because it was just added to mine. Curiosity really.

Chicago has it. Unfortunately, I'm a 0L so I can't give you any more than that, sorry. I don't know if it's even a similar class. It is mentioned some here: http://www.law.uchicago.edu/prospective/1Lcourses

At Purdue we have an Elements of Law course. I really liked it and it was more of an overview of the basics of law. I remember talk about contracts and some legal terms. It's been a year so I don't remember too much of the topics.

Chicago on the march. Soon, you will all be using the Maroonbook and framing every legal debate in terms of maximizing economic wealth while ignoring every other consideration.
