Is Berkeley a T6 school?
I'm new around here, and I see T6 and T14 thrown around a lot. The FAQ at the top explains T14, but not T6. My question is simple, is Berkeley considered a T6 school because it is tied with Chicago at 6 in the USNews rankings, or are there in fact only 6 T6 schools (I am assuming that Chicago is in there because of its history of excellence and reputation).

Re: Is Berkeley a T6 school?
Traditionally, T6 is the top 3 (Harvard Yale Stanford) + Columbia, Chicago and NYU. US news rankings change every year, but those are considered top 6 even though Chicago was 7 or 8 a few years. Berkeley is usually thought of as being a part of the next "tier" which consists of Berkeley, Michigan, Virginia, and Penn.

I don't think anyone has Berkeley in mind when they say T6. Awesome school, but it was ranked 9-13 only a few years ago, and Chicago is arguably better than Columbia/NYU for certain things, whereas Berkeley is, as far as I can tell, not.

It's been this way for a long time. And now that I have the Hougyoku embedded in my body, there is no stopping me.booboo wrote:An Aizen avatar?dbt wrote:I don't think anyone has Berkeley in mind when they say T6. Berkeley is in the T6 so it's a T6 school.

Thanks guys for all the responses, your answers are basically what I had guessed, but thought I'd make sure. I feel stupid for not noticing how well I could apply my handle to this post, but perhaps I would have made the reference too obvious in that case.

No need. We are all joking around here - your question is definitely legit.Tautology wrote:Thanks guys for all the responses, your answers are basically what I had guessed, but thought I'd make sure. "Berkeley's in the T6, so it's a T6 school" is an example of tautology and a valid response to your question.

Hmm, perhaps we should forget all about this thread and go back to pretending we've never done anything stupid in our lives. At least, I like to pretend that.Unemployed wrote:Now I feel stupid for RC fail.Tautology wrote:Oh no, I got the joke once it was made, I just didn't see it before hand. T3 = YHS
T6 = T3 + CCN
T10 = T6 + MVPB
T13 = T10 + DNC
T6 = T3 + CCN
T10 = T6 + MVPB
T13 = T10 + DNC

blatant anti GULC troll.
Anyways, I really don't get the people who say that Berkeley is not top 6 because it was lower a few years back. I really don't think prior years rankings are relevant at all. It's like saying that the Toronto Raptors are not a playoff basketball team even though they would make the playoffs if the season ended today, because they have sucked the last few years. If you guys want to make decisions based on what a school was ranked 10 years ago, go ahead. I want to make my decision on where a school is now and where it's headed.

I'm completely fine with that explanation. I'm just against the explanation that it's not T6 because it was ranked lower in the past. That just makes no sense to me.Oblomov wrote:If you look at lots of different placement numbers, it fits better with MVP than with CCN.adameus wrote:im_blue wrote:T3 = YHS

Re: Is Berkeley a T6 school?
Well, it has lower placement numbers as the result of the fact that it was ranked lower in the past so you're essentially saying the same thing. For whatever reason you want to acknowledge, Berkeley is not T6; you're arguing over semantics.adameus wrote:I'm completely fine with that explanation. Actually I do think it's gotta be Urahara. Aizen is just too smart; Yamamoto put up a hell of a fight, and surprised Aizen, but in the end even he wasn't enough. Only the guy that created the Hougyoku in the first place is going to have something up his sleeve to outwit Aizen and really mess up his plans.
