I Like Money / Douche Question

Post by nixxers » Wed Feb 24, 2010 1:49 am

Alright, so, I'm already in a great position admissions-wise, lets just put that out there. I'm not ungrateful. Just a little greedy.

Question du jour is:

Is it possible to use HLS admission to get $$ out of CCN?

If you have done this, or think it is a good idea or a potentially useful tool, or have any advice as to how to word this question (besides "Hi CCN, I already got into harvard, now give me more bills to make me come to your TTT school!") - please respond.

thx

First off, really? This is a real question. All those good grades and LSAT scores and you need advice on this? Really? Ok.

If both already accepted you why not give it a shot? Are they going to revoke their acceptance? No.

Even if, you go to Harvard.

/thread.

You can attack from both sides using HLS and the Darrow offer. Do it.

Go to Michigan.

But if you really want to try for Money out of CCN, tell them that with your Darrow and admission to HLS, it would be really hard to strongly consider CCN without a scholarship offer, and are wondering if they would consider making one given your circumstances...

Before you begin negotiations, you should pick a dollar amount that would be high enough to make you actually accept their offer (and then, of course, shoot for more). You should also wait until you get your fin aid package from HLS. No reason to waste everyone's time.

A top law school would expect no less of any future graduate.

Strategic comma, s, and question mark make this thread so much better.

Also no it isn't bad, just be nice about it and realize you may just get a no. [strike]Also don't do it if you plan on going to Harvard anyway, cause from what I understand Harvard could care less about other offers.[/strike]

Actually strike that, Harvard does care they even asked. Just do it.

You don't need the HLS acceptance to negotiate with CCN, just use the Darrow and the difference in the COL between the two schools. I am thinking that you already know this though, so was this just a HLS brag?

lol no, not at all! I just didn't really think that CCN would care as much about the Darrow as people seem to be implying.

tbf, i'm in this position except I don't have the Darrow... so this question might be even more relevant to me. What if you just have some $$ Chicago and HLS admittance? Is there grounds for negotiation over the $$?

I think the HLS acceptance is important. It the other bookend. On the one hand, you have a full scholarship to a T10 as leverage, and on the other hand, why would you pay sticker for a T6 when you can pay sticker at a T3...

I think it also applies, just not as strong. See my post above (for getting something from CN). If you want more from Chicago, though, you may be out of luck...

They do, I used a half tuition scholarship from Michigan in my request for more money from CCN. Plus a few others. The real question is are you willing to give up HLS for money from CCN or UM?
