Does Wake Forest Have Portability?
Many on here have said that Wake has no portability out of NC but the TLS writeup seems optimistic and the website says they send 50% out of state all over the country (for what its worth). Does Wake Forest have portability?

+1
I think the cynicism may come from TLSs general pessimism on all things not T14. However, it will certainly be far less portable than any of those T14.
I think when the TLS school profiles mention portability of degree/national mobility of employment, they are refering to portability relative to the schools ranking.
Im going to stop since im a 0L, and because im strongly considering wake and under the influence of their generous scholarship program.
I think the school is also really old, so that helps too.
Also, i dont want this thread to die off too fast Id like to see some other input

Wake Forest 2007 Graduates Employment Locationmarshalltucker wrote:Many on here have said that Wake has no portability out of NC but the TLS writeup seems optimistic and the website says they send 50% out of state all over the country (for what its worth). Does Wake Forest have portability?
Graduates employed in-state 46%
Graduates employed in foreign countries N/A
Number of states where graduates are employed 23
New England (CT, ME, MA, NH, RI, VT) 2.1%
Middle Atlantic (NY, NJ, PA) 8.0%
East North Central (IL, IN, MI, OH, WI) 2.8%
West North Central (IA, KS, MN, MO, NE, ND, SD) 0.7%
South Atlantic (DE, DC, FL, GA, MD, NC, SC, VA, WV) 78.0%
East South Central (AL, KY, MS, TN) 2.1%
West South Central (AR, LA, OK, TX) 2.1%
Pacific (AK, CA, HI, OR, WA) 2.1%
Mountain (AZ, CO, ID, MT, NV, NM, UT, WY) 2.1%
Employment location unknown N/A
The short answer: No.
The long answer: Not really. Unless of course you want to leave NC to go to VA and compete against 4 other 1st tier schools.
That being said, it probably does okay in GA or FL. I wouldn't count on the happening though (native competition).

Re: Does Wake Forest Have Portability?
I'd say it has more portability than other comparably-ranked schools, but nothing like a T14.
But it does have that elusive "name recognition". People know it when they hear it, and they usually know it's a decent school.

Obviously it wouldn't be at a T14 level but is something around the Emory, UNC, or even a W&M level out of the question? Not sure how much any of us can really be sure as 0L's but thats the question.

Re: Does Wake Forest Have Portability?
I just spoke with a really nice woman in career services specifically about DC/NYC placement. She gave me the impression that it's not as if a large portion of students want to work in DC or NYC and can't get jobs but rather most students want to either stay in NC or go elsewhere; however, those who do seek employment in DC/NYC end up with good placement options. Now that they are drawing students down from the NY and NJ area for law school, they are sending more graduated students back up there to practice. So basically if you want to practice somewhere else outside of NC, it doesn't seem to be that much of a problem. Don't take the statistics at face value.

I really do believe that most Tier 1 schools have alot more portability than TLS gives them credit for IF YOU HAVE TIES TO THE AREA you want to work in. Cue both the nay-sayers and people that take that as gospel in choosing.whatchootalkinbout wrote:I just spoke with a really nice woman in career services specifically about DC/NYC placement.
