What is the FAFSA for?

Post by msbeautifulbasham » Fri Jan 08, 2010 1:46 am

With regard to law school, is the FAFSA just for loans? Or can you get grants too? If anyone can clear this up for me that would be great. I'm just trying to decide if it is worth it to fill it out. I don't plan on taking out any loans, so if its just for loans I'm not going to bother. Thanks, guys!

You can't get Fed. Loans without it. If you don't need Fed Loans, then I guess you don't need it. Unless you have a really complicated tax filing, it will take a short amount of time to fill out, better safe than sorry.

Most (all?) of the schools I have looked into list filling out the FAFSA as the first step in receiving scholarships as well. It isn't used to determine amounts but I think without a FAFSA on file they will hold your scholarhips.
