I'm so happy to see this thread, if only just for the support. I'm driving 1800 miles solo from Texas to Virginia and a little anxious about it. Here's my set-up: 20' Uhaul, $600 - car dolly - $260 (wife and hyper little toddler flying)

Yeah, I'm figuring about $750 for gas, but still, I can't think of a cheaper way.Flips88 wrote:The gas cost is gonna fist you so hardAP-375 wrote:I'm so happy to see this thread, if only just for the support. They quoted me 7-10 days to ship my car with the official estimated date being 10 days - got it in 9. Was pretty pleased with the service. They shipped it through four seasons auto transport.JJDancer wrote:Just booked with http://www.franksautotransport.com/ to ship my car cross country. They quoted me less $ than most and claim to have their own trucks. I can't comment on the service since I haven't had my car picked up yet but just in case anyone is wondering....

Hassle of moving way outweighs the cost of setting up Ikea furniture. Just go build it yourself.Flips88 wrote:I just ran the numbers on a moving truck versus buying stuff from IKEA:
Depending on gas mileage (could be 6mpg to 10 mpg according to the website), it would run me $722-909
To buy new stuff from IKEA (bed, mattress, couch, desk/dinner table, couple chairs, dresser, and a bookshelf) would be $730-907
So it's basically a push. Not sure what to do. Though, if I spend more on furniture it'd mean upgrading to a queen sized bed which would be very appreciated.

The IKEA Scratch and Dent section is THE SHIT. It's all the way at the end of the store, after the showroom and the warehouse. I bought a king size bed for my girlfriend and me with a dent in the headboard, maybe 2 inches long, for $170, half off the original price of $340.
