Graduating college finally!! Working my butt off to save money, getting in shape, drinking my face off and having the best Summer ever before my social life ends.

def. go to thailand, awesome country and im off to singapore in the middle of feb.
It seems like travelling to Myanmar is a bad idea for a multitude of reasons. But um, good luck
Read State Department briefing FAIL. Its significantly safer than Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, etc. (for American citizens). They even let that nutcase that swam across the lake go...
I was really thinking more about a brutal, repressive regime benefiting from the money you'll inject into the Burmese economy, and as a secondary concern, some functionary maybe thinking you're a journalist and tossing you into a cell until the whole thing gets sorted out. But why worry about the details?
i think all these countries are safer than many places in america... if you travel smart, which i do, you can limit the money the government gets to around 10-15%... that also means that 85-90% goes to the people....it is def something to consider, but also keep in mind that the government makes a load more off selling natural resources to china...

as for your hypo about getting thrown in jail... hahaha your a fear monger and i assume you've never left the states...

Lol. You're morally assaulting me for spending a few hundred bucks in Burma? Do you pay taxes? How do you feel about the Iraq War? Do you buy stuff from Walmart (the majority of which comes from China, which actively funds the Burmese government)? Drive often? What're your feelings on Big Oil (which exploited the shit out of Burma for the first half of the 20th century, contributing to the mess it is today)?

bring cash. considering you will prob get the 28 day visa, bring like 1000-1500 and you are golden... also dont access online banking either, it will lock your account and become a big hassle... i will be going in with about 1500 usd and about 15000 thai baht...

1. working/making as much $$$ as possible (for: deposit, school visits and spending cash in LS)
2. hanging out with friends from college ('cause God knows when's the next time I see them once LS starts)
3. trying to hook-up with as many girls as possible ('cause I probably won't have much time for this in LS)
4. listening to as much music as possible

+1 for going to Myanmar. I'll be spending 2 weeks there this month. Will I feel guilty knowing that their government will be collecting some money off of me? Yes. But by traveling smart I'm sure it's possible to minimize this impact, see a beautiful country, and help out some of the people there in some small way. I think the real question is:

Am I going to regret going when I'm walking around Bagan while what determines my law school future piles up in my mailbox? :D
Oh, and will I have a job when I get back? Probably not actually....

Best advice I've heard all day. I'm concerned that a serious deficit of attractive, cool, available chicks awaits me in law school.

Would love to, but unfortunately all my stuff goes to my apartment. I moved here only last year, so the only people I know/friends are co-workers, and I sadly can't breathe a word of my plans to leave for law school or it will be gossiped about and I will be fired immediately, 100%. It's unfortunate, and I had hoped to be more forthright with my employer, but it's a very jealous/spiteful environment.
I actually just recently got put on a (highly questionable) PIP, so my immediate reaction has been to use all of my accrued vacation and fly to Burma :D At least I'll be getting paid! Suckers....

you can't get friends outside of work or family to help you out ? you can also tell the law schools that you will be abroad and that would like to be emailed about any decisions?

ToadGoDead: PM'ed you - although possibly my text got stuck in part of a quote...

As an aside - I'm sort of shocked by the # of TLSers traveling to Myanmar. Pretty surprising for an out-of-the-way country.

Cool thanks for the advice. I've tried so many times to get to Myanmar while living over there (Malaysia) but it just never worked out. This time I am going, come hell or high water!

What's the visa situation like? Can you obtain one in Thailand or at the border? Is it difficult?

As far as I understand you have to get it from the embassy (best one to get is Thailand, takes few days). But you cannot get it at the border. You can get one to go in just for one day to a border town, but to get to travel around the country you have to get a visa and actually fly in to the country.

Correct about the visa situation. Any more (from the U.S.) Myanmar visa questions, PM me. It's shockingly easy to obtain assuming you haven't spent the last 10 years as a political activist :D

Directing short films. Trying to finish as many films as possible before June, when I'll be traversing Europe. Screw prepping for law school. LIVE WHILE YOU CAN!

Nice. I, on the other hand, will be preparing for law school furiously from June through mid-July by studying up on Pilsner Urquell v My Liver...

correct. i am getting mine in bangkok in a couple of weeks. you MUST fly into Rangoon if i remember. you can do border runs near chumphon for a day or two

Working as a law clerk, traveling, and trying to enjoy life before I spend most of my time studying. Going to make a run at most of the law schools I was accepted to next month to check them out in person before I put down my deposits.

I think law school may be an exaggerated way for me to justify not working.

Traveling Bolivia, Panama... Practicing my Spanish.
Working to save money to move to a new city.
Trying to get student loans. etc.
