It seems to me Wake would not be a bad choice considering your ties to NC, you still can access the (better) UNC alumni network, and you have lawyer relatives in NC. How confident are you that these relatives can hook you up with a job? That to me would be the deciding factor. If they can hook it up, go for the cheapest option.

I go to Wake and will graduate with a little less than what you are projecting to graduate with, but the debt still stresses me out. For some perspective on the job situation for Wake 3Ls right now, if you are on LR and have good grades (~top 25% or better), then you have a good, but not 100% chance of landing a job. Outside of that you are going to struggle to find anything. But like I mentioned before, it comes down to what your relatives can do for you.

Is this just for biglaw (if there is such a thing in NC?) or a job period? If the latter that's awful :(

Any law job. My friends who don't fit the above criteria don't have anything yet. Yes, its a small sample size, but i think it's pretty representative.

With family contacts and a minimum of debt this isn't an awful choice.

Family contacts will probably get you a law job with some firm somewhere. It might not be what you'd like, in fact you might consider punching yourself in the nuts/ovaries every day, but it would probably be better than spending time asking "would you like fries with that?"

That said, if you get a decent scholly at a school with better employment prospects, you should probably take that over Wake.

Thanks guys for the advice. Duke and NYU haven't responded yet, but I might get lucky and get a decent scholarship to Duke.

I'm in a similar position to you. Think I'm just gonna wait a year, re-take the LSAT and apply early decision to NW (would ideally like to stay in Chicago since that's where I'm from) rather than pay sticker at Michigan (if I get in, I'm probably on the bubble), take a 50 % scholly from a T1 or a full scholly from a T2. I'm pretty risk averse too and I think the best way to handle it is to go to a T14 with a scholarship. Gotta get that LSAT score up.

I know the job market blows (impending college grad with a BS major) but I think work experience will help when applying to be a lawyer later on. Gotta tough it out rather than hide from it in three years in a specifically tough market with lots of debt and no job experience. Not looking to make a lot of money but anything will do at this point since ideally it'll only be temporary.
