At a minimum this is a waste of $. Honestly, for each class the exam is based solely on the reading and what happened in class. I know people who really screwed up their grades by trying to learn outside materials that conflicted with what we were taught in class. Keep in mind that any body of law--for instance contracts--in real life is based on federal case law and case law in each of the fifty states, as well as statutory law. The classes "Contracts I/II" are a distillation of the body of the law, and while they are largely the same from law school to law school there will be some differences. I'd be worried not only about wasting money but confusing yourself.

I know someone who did this and he found it helpful. Who knows if he's telling the truth or not, people don't always like to admit they wasted money. I think if its free or your parents are paying then it isn't a bad idea. But if you're itching to work, I think your time would be better spent doing 1L job search stuff - resumes, cover letters, etc - which is really annoying to do during the school year.
